DUE
1 July 2009
Shipmates,
The date requested for reservations to be submitted has passed.
The attendees list below is revised daily to reflect who has already
submitted their reservations, and those who are still indicating they
are tentative to attend. You can still submit your form for
desired activities. DON'T
HESITATE MUCH LONGER BECAUSE FINAL PLANS ARE BEING ARRANGED AND YOU MAY
MISS OUT ON SOME EVENTS. EVENTS TO BE HELD WITHIN THE HOST HOTEL

If your name isn't

What if you
need to cancel after making reservations?
The hotel has a liberal cancellation policy which charges no penalty
until 6AM the date of your reservation. Our Reunion fee
cancellation policy-- The
General Registration
Fee is not refundable after 1 July 2009. All event fees are
refundable unless reservations made with the vendor, venue or
transportation company are not cancelable, or subject to penalty after
a certain date. (For the banquet, the date is approx. two weeks
prior.) In any case, regardless of date, and depending on
the situation, an attempt will be made to refund as much as possible of
your deposits if you have to cancel. However, even with
these chances to cancel later on, PLEASE MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS NOW !!
What
if I decide at the last minute to attend?
A few last minute add ons can be accommodated for the main
banquet. The remainder of the events will remain open up

***Membership
in USSVI is not required for attending the Sabalo or any other boat
reunion. However, this is a great organization for subvets and
you should check it out. Ron Gorence, QMC(SS) on board Sabalo
1966-70 is the Membership Chair for the San Diego Base and has this to
say:
"Membership
in USSVI costs $20 for
National plus $20 more for the San Diego Base per year, which will buy
you the
quarterly American Submariner magazine (full of Sub-related info) and
the SD Base Silent Sentinel, which will keep you up to date on local
scuttlebutt prior to the convention. Of course, neither is required to
attend the Sabalo event (at Town and Country), but other official
Convention
events do require National membership. IMHO,
that’s $40 well spent. Go to ussvisandiego.org
and click on MEMBERSHIP
and send me an application and a check made out to “USSVI” and I’ll get
you on the mailing list. This site also has archived copies of the
Silent Sentinel."
Ron
can help you find a Base
in your local area if you prefer, and one exists.

NOTE:
21 Apr 2009 - As a result of intensified searching over the past six
months for men listed on the rosters, but not previously located, many
additional men have been located, and also much additional personal
information has been added to the rosters and personal 'bio'
pages. Unfortunately, there are many cases of finding that our
shipmates have passed away. Some were determined to have died a
number of years ago, but, sadly, even the number since our April 2007
reunion includes many names. Be sure to review the rosters, if
you haven't done so in some time, and check on your old friends.
If you see anything that might be added, please be sure to communicate.

If you don't see
any particular man who served with you on the
list,
and you'd like to renew old times, why not give him a call, and
see if you can encourage him to meet you this time? If he's
not listed
on the roster pages as located yet, send
me his
name and I'll start an intensive attempt to find him.

Previous email notices sent
to
all those with known email addresses have had many messages returned as
undeliverable, most due to probably changed addresses. A couple
were due to email blocking software which must allow a specific address
to send mail. Please check your listing on the roster pages to
see
if your correct
address is listed, and be sure to keep Sabalo in mind if you change.

USSVI
National Conventions:
Future USSVI national conventions will
continue to be a draw for a number
of
men. The possibility exists that if a fair number of men indicate
they will attend any particular convention, then maybe a Sabalo event
could be arranged. If not, then maybe
an impromptu get together may be staged. -- Toward that end a
list will be kept with each convention information section below for
registering your name, if you are interested, or will be
attending. If you add your name, this may help others to make a
decision to also attend. Please send your plans at the earliest
opportunity to facilitate this possibility.
The complete schedule of upcoming USSVI national and regional
conventions, and district meetings is posted on the national web site
at:
