About
membership in United
States
Submarine Veterans Inc.
|
You can check the membership details on
the
USSVI site at: http://ussvi.org
,
including the location of your nearest base.
As of March 2009, there were more than 150 men who served on the Sabalo that are on the national USSVI membership list.
I
joined in Feb., 2001, and it
has been
great meeting guys from all eras, and talking the boats, and swapping
sea
stories. My group was initially Pocono Base, but we have now
organized a new base, the USS Scranton Base, (closer to my home )
in
Northeastern Pennsylvania, and we meet in
a great facility hosted by the Marine Corps League.
Activities have included picnics, dinner-dances, parades and other community participation affairs. USSVI has an annual national convention, and also regional conventions. I didn't really consider vet's organizations my thing in the past, but I have been pleased with the activities.
Please check it out and consider
membership. Sub vets are joining at a rapid pace, and the
membership is now over 12,500 with over 150 local bases.
USSVI
activities/membership costs
about 30-35
bucks which includes $20
for the national annual dues, and
usually $10-15 for local base annual dues. Life
memberships are available at rates based on your age. Included
with membership is a
subscription
to the national magazine, American Submariner which is
published
quarterly with interesting sub stories along with organization
news. Many bases also publish a periodic newsletter which
contains other submarine news and stories, and items of interest in
addition to base activity notices.
