POLICE SEE SUBMARINE;
RAISED FUNDS FOR IT
40 from here Inspect USS Sabalo at Chester
Forty Philadelphia policemen, members of the
Fraternal Order of Police No. 5, this afternoon inspected the submarine
USS Sabalo, moored at the Ford Motor Co. pier in Chester.
Police made construction of the submarine
possible, by raising money equal to its cost during the Fourth War Loan.
The vessel was launched at Cramp's shipyard on June 4, 1944. It was
brought to Chester on Thursday [25 Oct 1945], to be part of Chester's Navy
Day celebration.
The inspection tour was directed by Walter
Krolovich, president of F.O.P. No. 5, and members of the Labor Squad, headed
by Captain Richard Doyle, participated. The ship was built in memory
of George H. Muhs, a member of the Labor Squad, killed in action early
in the war.
